Jane Espenson is a very, very good writer, a generally smart and wise lady, and also hilarious. And in this post on her excellent blog, she explains why I absolutely detest the phrase "everything happens for a reason." Go ahead and read it. I'll wait.
See? I told you she was wise.

I've been tagged
And no, I am not talking about my alley being covered in new graffiti by, apparently, a rival gang who crossed out all the old graffiti and put in their enticing and interesting names and profanities. I'm talking about the lovely Kat With A K and how she tagged me for this funny 6 Weird Things About Me meme.
So here we go...
1. I am a college graduate with an English degree who has difficulty pronouncing the word "ambulance." Sometimes it comes out "amblience" for no discernible reason.
2. In 8th grade I did a presentation on how my favorite foods were french fries and pizza, and my favorite books were Brave New World and 1984, which I referred to as "negative utopias" since I didn't actually know the term "dystopia."
3. I can not bear to have music on when I'm writing. It's too distracting.
4. And speaking of weirdness and music, I don't hear music as a whole anymore but rather I hear each part individually and focus on one part at a time. I blame my music degree.
5. I really like rats as pets.
6. There is something so disgusting to me about another person's hair being stuck on my clothes, furniture, or *horror of horrors* in a library book. It makes me physically ill when I have to deal with a book that has someone's hair in it.
Yeah, so that's how freaky I am. Now, I know that I am supposed to tag six people, but seriously, I don't even think I actually know six people. So if you are reading this, you should probably consider yourself tagged.
And I'm sorry about the unannounced two week hiatus. I'm going to be away for a bit for the holidays, but I have some exciting things planned here such as posting about some restaurants I go to on vacation, and a project I'm going to call "An Accessory A Day." Intrigued, yes? Will it be accessories to murder, or purses and stuff? Tune in next time!

real life, such as it is
I don't talk about my real life here much. Too many stories of people being fired for blogging, or sued, or given book deals (although I would be open to that last one, agents. are you listening? call me!). But this has been a sort of rough week. 2 friends were involved in a serious car accident on Sunday. One is going to be okay, and one is...we don't know yet actually how he's going to be. It's hard to make with the funny when something like this is going on. It feels sort of wrong. But I'm going to do it anyway, because that's what real life is. It's going on normally even when things are weird and wrong and sad and tiring.
So, yeah. I haven't really read anything. I've not been out to eat at any new places lately. And the only exciting knitting thing I'm doing is casting on for Fetching 2: Electric Boogaloo. The sequel will be knit in RYC Cashsoft aran again, in a dark grey color called "Thunder." Which just keeps making me think of the Thunder Down Under all-male review in Las Vegas. They're (the gloves, not the all-male review) also being made just slightly larger, and longer to accomodate my husband's hands (stop thinking of the all-male review and my husband at the same time, I mean it!).
Apparently there's been controversy about whether or not a man should wear Fetching. And while they do look somewhat feminine, the spouse thinks they will look good on him. So that's what I'm going to do.
Up next, maybe I'll go eat some tacos and tell you about them. Don't say I never did anything for you, Internet.

another thing done
I finished the fingerless gloves known as Fetching, from Knitty. I am excited to wear them! They are fuzzy and cozy. Knitted with RYC cashsoft aran.

Oh, and I finished my semester today too.
